Hiantopora View in CoL sp.

( Figs 16–18 View FIGURES 16–18 ; Table 6)

Figured material. RGM.1350547, Holocene, UPGG 041, off South Sulawesi.

Description. Colony encrusting, multiserial, unilaminar. Zooidal boundaries ill-defined in the studied fragment because of cemented sediment on the colony surface. Autozooids generally ovoidal, longer than broad (mean L/W = 1.30). Gymnocyst more developed laterally, smooth. Cryptocyst a narrow, raised rim surrounding the opesia. Opesia oval to pear-shaped, longer than broad, occupying almost the entire frontal surface. Few (3–5) mural spine bases placed distolateral to the orifice, stout, 30–45 µm in diameter, sometimes coalescent and platy. A single, adventitious avicularium is located distolaterally of orifice, proximolaterally directed; rostrum rounded triangular. Ooecium small, raised, cap-like; ectooecium incompletely calcified.

Remarks. A single, poorly-preserved fragment of Hiantopora sp. was found in our samples. This specimen appears to conform to the characters of Hiantopora , notably the slightly developed cryptocyst, stout platy distolateral spine bases, cap-like ooecium with partially exposed endooecium, and adventitious avicularia. However, the specimen is too poorly preserved to allow any significant comparison with known species of Hiantopora .

N, Number of colonies and number of zooids measured; SD, standard deviation.
