Ergasilus lizae was collected from the gills of Chelon labrosus caught in the Gulf of Béjaïa and Mugil cephalus captured in the Soummam Oued.
In the Mediterranean, this species was found on several host species and in particular on mugilids (partly summarized by Raibaut et al. 1998). It was reported in Italy on M. cephalus ( Richiardi 1880) , M. saliens ( Liza saliens ) ( Valle 1880), M. capito ( Liza ramado ) and M. chelo ( Chelon labrosus ) ( Brian 1906), Egypt on M. cephalus ( Wilson 1923) , Israel on M. cephalus ( Roberts 1970) , Tunisia on M. cephalus , Liza aurata , L. ramada , L. saliens ( Raibaut et al. 1975) , M. cephalus , L. aurata , Liza ramada ( Liza ramado ), L. saliens , Alosa fallax ( A. fallax fallax ), Barbus barbus , Solea solea , Anguilla anguilla ( Raibaut & Ben Hassine 1977) , Belone belone , Solea vulgaris ( S. solea ), Anguilla anguilla , Alosa fallax fallax and B. barbus ( Ben Hassine 1981) , Tunisia and France on mullets ( Ben Hassine 1983). Ergasilus lizae was also found in the Adriatic ( Montenegro) where it parasitizes M. cephalus , Chelon labrosus , Liza (Liza) aurata ( L. aurata ), L. (L.) ramada ( L. ramado ) ( Radujkovic & Raibaut 1987, 1989). In North Africa, it was previously reported (as E. nanus ) from Mugil by Rose and Vaissière (1952).
