Etymology: The species epithet refers to the Orizaba volcano, the type locality of this species, taken from the Latin word for ‘volcanic’ and is a declinable adjective.

Diagnosis: Males of S. volcanicus have a RAc bifid as in S. gaimani but with the RCm broad, with a hookshaped flat edge ( Fig. 31G, H).

Description: Male (holotype TSM 794). Total length 3.48. Prosoma 1.32 long, 1.11 wide. Prosoma height 1.22, fovea height 1.10. Opisthosoma 2.17 long, 0.89 wide, 1.10 high. Clypeus height 0.23. AME 0.06, ALE 0.07, PME 0.07, PLE 0.07. Femur I 3.29 (2.5× prosoma length), Metatarsus I 1.89, TmI 0.2. Prosoma light yellow, with a darker line separating the cephalic area from the carapace and in the margins of the prosoma. Opisthosoma light grey with white guanine spots sparkled and some dark chevrons on the posterior part of the dorsum. Legs same colour as the prosoma, without any marks ( Fig. 29A–D). RCs dorsoventrally flattened, more or less parallel to the RCm ( Fig. 31F). Tegulum more elongate and narrower than in all other Selenyphantes species ( Fig. 33B).

Distribution: MEXICO: Only known from the type locality at the Pico de Orizaba Volcano in Mexico.
