The genus Pallenopsis was moved to the Phoxichilidiidae by Arnaud and Bamber (1987) as suggested by Stock (1978a). Current thinking (e.g. Child, 1995; Bamber, in press) has returned the genus to the Callipallenidae . All the present species found bathypelagically are of the subgenus Bathypallenopsis . The specimens of Pallenopsis (B.) tritonis from the current collections have been reported on elsewhere (Bamber, in press).
