Enallagma Charpentier, 1840

A large genus of mostly North American species, with very few species occurring in South America. Adults of most species are predominantly black with blue stripes and spots ( Fig. 20 View FIGURE 20 ) although some North American species have orange, red or burgundy stripes. See Heckman (2008) for species identification in South America. Habitats of this genus vary widely and include vegetated ponds, lakes, slow-flowing ditches and small streams.
