Aeshnidae are commonly known as “darners” in the New World. They are medium to large in size and are strong fliers. Adults range in color pattern from mostly drab brown to intricately colored with blue, green and yellow marks on a black or brown background. Nine genera and 47 species occur in Ecuador.
