This widely distributed species is easily confused with the closely related P. limpida Schmitz View in CoL , which is recorded from countries bordering the Mediterranean. The males of the two species are best distiguished by the form of the left posterolateral lobe of epandrium (cf. Figure 75C and D View Figure 75 ).

Natural history
Adults have been recorded visiting flowers of Aster tripolium (Asteraceae) , Crataegus monogyna , Prunus laurocerasus (Rosaceae) , Angelica sylvestris , Anthriscus sylvestris and Torilis japonica (Apiaceae) ; and feeding on honeydew and also cat dung.
