Hosts. Highly polyphagous species infesting 249 genera of plants ( Benavent-Corai et al. 2005). Fabaceae : Ononis arvensis L. — a newly recorded host plant.

Mine. The larva initially forms a upper surface linear mine ( Fig. 122 View FIGURES 122–129 ), later moving to the underside of the leaf and pupating there subepidermally ( Fig. 123 View FIGURES 122–129 ).

Puparium. ( Figs. 124–126 View FIGURES 122–129 ) Yellowish, translucent, with brown anterior and posterior spiracles, 2.6 mm long, with distinct segmentation; surface quite smooth except for narrow bands of minute spines. Posterior spiracles set on stout conical protuberances and entirely separate; with ten sessile bulbs (one larger and nine smaller) set in a kidney-like configuration. Anal plate strongly protruding above the surface of the puparium viewed from the side and directed ventro-posteriorly.

Cephalopharyngeal skeleton. ( Fig. 455 View FIGURES 455–459 ) Right mouthhook much larger than the left, each with sharp abducted portion directed ventro-anteriorly and bearing two accessory teeth. Intermediate sclerite curved, with one rounded and two sharp protuberances located dorsally and one sharp protuberance located ventrally; sclerite 1.04× as long as maximum height of left mouthhook. The mouthhook and intermediate sclerite are strongly sclerotized and the pharyngeal sclerite is much less so. The ventral cornu bears a teardrop-shaped “closed” window located centrally. Indentation index 86.

Female head. ( Figs. 456, 457 View FIGURES 455–459 ) Yellowish, with only antenna, palpus and postgena ash grey; orbit not projecting above eye in profile; 2 orb s, 1 fr s; lunule low, very broad, semicircular, reaching the level of fr s; pped of medium size, rounded; gena medially 0.3× as high as maximum height of eye.

Female genitalia. ( Figs. 458, 459 View FIGURES 455–459 ) Capsule of spermatheca relatively very small, 0.05× as high as height of anterior part of oviscape. Spermathecae equal in size, dark brown, spherical. Spermathecal duct weakly sclerotized. Ventral receptacle Z-shaped, with thin, weakly sclerotized tail. Body of receptacle stout, abducted apically with slightly curved basal connecting tube, strongly sclerotized, 2.42× as wide as capsule of spermatheca; with opening 0.67× as wide as diameter of spherical part of body.

Distribution. Palaearctic, Oriental, Nearctic and Afrotropical Regions ( Papp & Černý 2019). Common in Ukraine.
