( Figs 32–44 View FIGURES 32–44 )

Material examined. Holotype male, DENMARK, Dk EJ, Nørre Onsild mose (= bog), 21.vi. – 17.vii.2017, Esben Bøggild (CUMZ-8-184).

Postpedicels without SPS vesicles, and as Fig. 33 View FIGURES 32–44 . Proboscis from below as Fig. 34 View FIGURES 32–44 . Thorax yellow. Three notopleural bristles, with no cleft in front of these, and mesopleuron as Fig. 35 View FIGURES 32–44 . Scutellum with an anterior pair of small hairs and a posterior pair of bristles. Abdomen as Fig. 36 View FIGURES 32–44 . Hypopygium as Figs 38– 39 View FIGURES 32–44 . Legs yellow apart from brown tip to hind femur. Fore tarsus with posterodorsal hair palisade on segments 1–4 and 5 longer than 4 ( Fig. 40 View FIGURES 32–44 ). Dorsal hair palisade of mid tibia extends about 0.73 times its length ( Fig. 41 View FIGURES 32–44 ). Hind femur as Fig. 42 View FIGURES 32–44 . Hind tibia with 10 robust differentiated posterodorsal hairs ( Fig. 43 View FIGURES 32–44 ) and without anterodorsals, and spinules of apical combs simple. Wings ( Fig. 44 View FIGURES 32–44 ) 1.76 mm long. Costal index 0.52. Costal ratios 2.31: 1.64: 1. Costal cilia (of section 3) 0.08 mm long. Hair at base of vein 3 0.07 mm long. With 2 axillary bristles. Sc not reaching R1. Haltere knob yellow.

Recognition. In the key of Lundbeck (1922) to Group VI couplet 14 lead 1 M. propinqua (Wood), from which it differs in having spinose labella. In the key to the males of the British Isles ( Disney, 1989) it runs to couplet 203, where neither option fits, or to couplet 228 lead 1 M. lata (Meigen) which it closely resembles except the latter is a very dark species. If one follows the note to this couplet one proceeds to couplet 238, lead 1 M. minor (Zetterstedt) which is likewise very similar except for its brown thorax, abdominal tergites, legs and haltere. Etymology. Named after Carl Kähler, who with his sister Gerda, founded 15-juni-fonden, a foundation that has helped Esben Bøggild purchase microscope equipment to facilitate his studies.
