Type Locality: Gabon.
Vernacular Names: Hammer-headed Fruit Bat.
Synonyms: Hypsignathus labrosus Murray 1862 ; Hypsignathus macrocephalus Peters 1876 .
Distribution: Sierra Leone to W Kenya, south to Zambia and Angola; Bioko ( Equatorial Guinea). Records from Gambia and Ethiopia are doubtful.
Conservation: IUCN / SSC Action Plan (1992) – Not Threatened. IUCN 2003 – Lower Risk (lc).
