Genus Amphicorina Claparede, 1864 View in CoL
Type species.
Fabricia (Amphicorina) armandi Claparède, 1864 by monotypy.
Nomenclatural remarks.
The genus name was initially referred to in French as “L’Amphicorine” ( Quatrefages 1850) for a sabellid occurring in Bréhat, France. It was later latinized as Amphicorina by Leuckart (1854); however, neither Quatrefages (1850) nor Leuckart (1854) combined it with any available specific name(s), and thus their usage of the name does not satisfy Article 12.2.5 of the International Code of Zoological Nomenclature ( ICZN 1999). Claparède (1864) made the genus-group name available, originally as a subgenus that included only Fabricia (Amphicorina) armandi Claparède, 1864. Therefore, the authority of the name should be ascribed to Claparède (1864), not to Quatrefages (1850) as some authors have erroneously indicated (e.g., Nogueira and Amaral 2000; WoRMS 2010).
