Distribution and habitat. Gonatodes annularis is endemic to northern Amazonia, restricted to the eastern portion of the Guiana shield, with its western distribution delimited by the Caroni and Uatumã river basins, occurring in Brazil, French Guiana, Suriname, Guyana, and Venezuela ( Fig. 6 View FIGURE 6 ). In Brazil it is known from the states of Amapá, Pará, and Amazonas. Gonatodes annularis is arboreal and diurnal, inhabits primary terra firme and varzea forests, where it is usually found on the lower parts of the tree trunks, between the buttresses (30–150 cm above ground), but also on fallen tree trunks, and in crevices of rocks ( Beebe 1944; Hoogmoed 1973; Hoogmoed & Lescure 1975; Gasc 1981; Hoogmoed & Ávila-Pires 1989; Hoogmoed & Ávila-Pires 1991; Ávila-Pires 1995; Molina et al. 2004; Rivas & Molina 2004; Barrio-Amorós & Duellman 2009; Ávila-Pires et al. 2010).
