Material examined. CHINA: Fujian Province: Quanzhou City, Dehua County, Deiyunshan Mountain (25°41’ N, 118°11’ E), 1635 m a.s.l, 2 males, 12. ix. 2002, 14. ix. 2002, Zheng Liu (BDN No. 20134, 20170).
Diagnostic characters. This species is similar to P. rufiventris ( Meigen 1830) ( Caspers & Reiss, 1989) in AR and distinct humeral pit, and most other characters, but can be separated by the setae of abdomen reduced; inferior volsella with apical rounded, not triangular, and with notched posterior margin; gonostylus with large crista dorsalis.
Additions to description. Chinese specimens had the following measurements: Total length 3.0– 3.3 mm. Wing length 1.5–1.6 mm. Total length/ wing length 2.0. Wing length/ length of profemur 2.4–2.5. AR 1.35–1.4. Temporal setae 4, including 2 inner vertical, 2 outer vertical. Clypeus with 17–19 setae. Tentorium 143–145 µm long, 33–40 µm wide. Stipes 145–150 µm long, 10–13 µm wide. Palpomeres length (in µm): 35–45, 55, 108–113, 113–118, 170–178. Palpomere 5/ 3 1.55–1.6. Dorsocentrals 16–18 setae, prealars 5. Scutellum with 6–8 setae. Squama with 15–16 fringe hairs. R with 4–5 setae. VR 1.0–1.1. Cu length 640–670 µm. Cu/wing length 0.42–0.43. Wing width/wing length 0.32– 0.33. Laterosternite IX with 5–6 long setae. Phallapodeme 65–70 µm long, transverse sternapodeme 100–105 µm long, with oral projections. Gonocoxite 188–190 µm long. Inferior volsella a little curved posteriorly. Superior volsella absent. Gonostylus 80–88 µm long, with crista dorsalis. Megaseta 10–12 µm long. HR 2.1–2.4, HV 3.7–3.8.
Distribution. The species occurs in Transvaal in South Africa, and in the Ethiopian highlands. The Chinese specimens were collected in the Fujian Province (Oriental China).
