Type (lectotype, designated here):— FRANCE. Coteaux pres à St. Leonard Bas Valais, 10 Jul 1880, Jaccard s.n. ( W 1996-0012826 ! left-hand specimen; image of the lectotype is available at http://herbarium.univie.ac.at/database/detail. php? ID =157475) .

Protologue citation:—“coteaux à Branson et à St-Léonard (Jaccard); chemìn de St-Léonard à Lens (Chenevard); rochers près de Stalden (Briquet); coteaux de Münster (Daënen)”.

Nomenclatural notes:—There is also one syntype in the herbarium W (W-Ronniger 1996-0012829!).

Taxonomic notes:— Thymus serpyllum var. vallesiacus belongs to the Th. praecox species complex. Further studies will be necessary to understand the complexity of this taxon.
