Diagnosis: acrostichal 1:1; dorsocentral 2:4; mid femur with three preapical setae; hind tibia with one submedian anterodorsal seta.
Color: general body coloration brown; frons yellow, apex brown; facialia, parafacialia, gena and antenna brownish yellow; palpus yellow; scutum with four dark stripes of grey pruinosity; apex of scutellum yellow; calypters white; halter brownish yellow; wing hyaline.
Male. Length. Body: 6.0– 7.1 mm; wing: 6.5–7.3 mm.
Head: eyes separated from each other by 0.08–0.12 mm, at level of ocellar tubercle; 10–12 pairs of convergent frontal setae; ocellar seta large and parallel; postocellar seta large and divergent; inner vertical seta large and divergent; outer vertical seta small and convergent.
Thorax: acrostichal 1:1; dorsocentral 2:4; intra-alar 1; some exemplars with dark setulae at least on posteroventral portion of posterior thoracic spiracle in addition to the flap-like hair cover; fore tibia with distinct submedian anterodorsal seta; apex of fore tibia with setae on dorsal, posterodorsal and posteroventral surfaces; mid femur with row of setae on ventral surface from base to middle, reappearing near apex; mid femur with three preapical setae, on dorsal, posterodorsal and posterior surfaces; apex of mid tibia with setae on anterior, anterodorsal, dorsal, posterodorsal, posterior, ventral and anteroventral surfaces; hind femur with complete row of dorsal and anteroventral setae, and row of anterodorsal and ventral setae from base to middle; hind tibia with one submedian anterodorsal seta and two submedian anteroventral setae; hind tibia with anterior, anterodorsal, dorsal, posterodorsal, ventral and anteroventral setae at apex; wing with one dorsal and one ventral seta at apex of stem vein.
Abdomen: fifth sternit, in profile e projected; cercus, in posterior view, wide.
Female (differing as follows): Length. Body: 6.0–7.0 mm; wing: 6.5–7.2 mm; eyes separated each other by 0.26–0.32 mm, at level of ocellar tubercle; 10–11 pairs of frontal convergent setae, except for upper two pairs, parallel; ocellar and postocellar setae large and divergent; inner vertical seta large and convergent, and outer vertical seta large and divergent; sternite VIII with spike-like setae; epiproct with four setae, setae in a squareshaped arrangement (2:2).
Comments: Unlike the original description by Lopes & Khouri (1995), N. vitoriae has acrostichals 1:1, as evidenced by the examination of the holotype. Lopes & Khouri (1995) placed this species as being close to N. instabilis and N. schadei .
Type material examined: Holotype: male; with setae missing; fore left, median left and right and hind left legs missing; abdomen dissected and stored in a microvial with glycerin; label: white, printed “ BRASIL, Minas Gerais, Paraopeba / 10-XI-1969 / H. Ebert col.”; label: red, printed HOLOTYPE ( MNRJ). Type-locality: Paraopeba, Minas Gerais, Brazil.
Paratypes: BRAZIL: Minas Gerais. 6 males and 6 females “Paraopeba, Minas, BRASIL, H. Ebert, 10-XI-69 ” ( MNRJ) \ 1 female “Santa Vitória, Minas, BRASIL / F.M.
