Veturius (Vetur ius) assimilis (Weber, 1801)

Third instar. Body: length 35.0 mm, width (prothorax) 7.0 mm; with tiny, stout setae; prosternal setae present; presence of other setae in the lateroventral part of the abdominal segments I–IX. Primary setal pattern: 3 HPA, 0 PD, 3 PSL, 0 MSD, 2 MSL, 0 MTD, 2 MTL, 1 TM, 0 TSM, 1 TL, 1 AV9 ( Table 2 View TABLE 2 ). The TSM setae present only in the abdominal segments VIII–IX. Head: without uniform pile of short, golden setae; epicranial suture short; frontal sutures extend to the base of the antennae; width of head capsule 4.0 mm ( Fig. 1 View FIGURE 1 b). Mandibles with microasperities in the ventral base. Maxillary stipes with 18 micro-conical projections ( Fig. 2 View FIGURE 2 b). Legs: pars stridens (mesocoxae) length 793.04 µm, width 495.63 µm, distance into striate 10.34 µm, 51 striae ( Fig. 7 View FIGURE 7 ); mesocoxae and metacoxae with 2 internal setae. Metathoracic legs with some short medial and posterior setae and micro-asperities in the posterior areas; anterior margin with 6 teeth, I and III–VI well developed and almost the same size, II is the smallest tooth ( Fig. 3 View FIGURE 3 b). Abdomen: raster with setae; anal ring with 18 setae; anal slit T-shaped ( Fig. 4 View FIGURE 4 b).

Distribution. States of Minas Gerais, Rio de Janeiro, São Paulo, Paraná, Santa Catarina, Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil and Alto Paraná, Paraguay ( Boucher 2006). The material examined confirms their presence in Misiones, Argentina ( Jiménez-Ferbans et al. 2013).
