( Figure 6 View Figure 6 A–C)

Material examined

Holotype: female, As-672, Vietnam, Da Lat , Thac Dataula, waterfall, 1200 m, from soil, 7 December 1994, leg. S. Mahunka. Holotype stored in alcohol ( HNHM) .

Description

Female. Length of idiosoma 360 µm, width 310 µm. Shape oval, posterior margin rounded.

Dorsal idiosoma ( Figure 6A View Figure 6 ). All dorsal setae long (c. 42–56 µm) and setiform, their distal margins with short hairs ( Figure 6B View Figure 6 ). Dorsal shield smooth, without specific sculptural pattern.

Ventral idiosoma ( Figure 6C View Figure 6 ). Tritosternum not clearly visible. Ventral surface smooth, without ornamentation. Sternal setae st1 placed near the anterior margin of sternal shield, short and needle-like; st2 placed between coxae II and III, twice as long as st1, smooth and needle-like; st3 broken at their bases; st4 inserted between coxae III and IV, similar with st1. Genital shield linguliform, with very short spine-like process on anterior margin. Ventral cavity large, anterior margin can be seen near basis of genital shield, posterior margin reaches to basis of setae V3. Preanal area with additional pair of small and subcircular cavities. Ventral setae V1 placed near the basis of the genital shield, in the ventral cavity. Setae V2, V3 and V4 can be found on the lateral margins of the ventral cavity. All ventral setae smooth and setiform. Setae V1 long (c. 37–40 µm), V2 shorter than V1 (c. 30–32 µm), V3 longer (c. 62–66 µm) than V1 and V2, V4 (c. 28– 30 µm) as long as V2. One pair of smooth and setiform posteriormost setae present on ventral idiosoma. Stigmata situated at the level of coxae II. Peritremes hook-shaped.

Gnathosoma. Not clearly visible (covered by coxae I).

Male, nymphs and larvae. Unknown.

Etymology

The name of the new species refers to the Latin word mirificus (admirable, unusual), for the presence of the strange ventral cavity.

Key to the species of the genus Depressorotunda

1. Peritreme R-shaped ( Figure 4D,E View Figure 4 ), posteriormost dorsal setae conspicuously longer than those with anterior position ( Figure 4 View Figure 4 A–C).............................................................. D. seticaudata Peritreme hook-shaped ( Figures 1D View Figure 1 , 5C View Figure 5 and 6C View Figure 6 ), most of dorsal setae subequal in length................................................ 2

2. V3 as long as V2 and V4 ( Figures 1D View Figure 1 , 2A View Figure 2 and 5C View Figure 5 ).................... 3 V3 two times longer than V2 and V4 ( Figure 6C View Figure 6 ).............. D. mirifica

3. Male ventral cavity conspicuously enlarged, reaching sternal region, with genital shield in medial part ( Figure 2A View Figure 2 and 3E View Figure 3 ); most of dorsal setae with distal pilosity ( Figure 1 View Figure 1 A–C)............................ D. malayana Male ventral cavity smaller, not reaching sternal region, lacking genital shield ( Figures 3B View Figure 3 and 5C View Figure 5 ), most of dorsal setae smooth ( Figure 5A,B View Figure 5 )...................................................... D. thailandica
