Trichohydnobius Vogt, 1961: 154 (as subgenus of Hydnobius View in CoL ). Type species: Hydnobius perrisii Fairmaire, 1855 View in CoL (= S. suturalis ( Zetterstedt, 1828)) View in CoL , by original designation. As genus, Daffner (1983); synonymized by Perkovsky (1988).
Diagnosis. Antennal club interrupted 5-segmented; mandibles moderately elongate, apices entire; labrum deeply emarginate; clypeus weakly concave; epistomal suture clearly indicated, complete; eye protuberant; post-ocular temporum short; gular sutures widely separated at base, convergent in basal one-half, moderately to narrowly separated at base of submentum, with a suture separating gula and submentum; mesoventrite weakly oblique, not carinate; mesocoxae separated by mesoventral and metaventral processes; elytral epipleura with dense whitish setae.
Distribution and diversity. The genus is known to contain four Palearctic species ( Daffner 1983, Newton 1998), and the following new records for the genus reported for the first time from the Nearctic.
