Diagnosis. Antennal club large, 3-segmented; mandibles conspicuous, elongate, apices entire; labrum emarginate; clypeus sexually dimorphic, lightly sclerotized and deeply concave in male, in female short, strongly sclerotized basally and lightly sclerotized apically; epistomal suture curved, a raised carina in male; eyes large, protuberant; gular sutures widely separated at base, convergent to base of submentum, with a suture separating gula and submentum; mesoventrite (mesosternum of other authors) weakly oblique, not carinate; mesocoxae narrowly separated by mesoventral process; all tibiae slender; male with several teeth on posterior margin of metafemur.
Distribution and diversity. The genus is known to contain only the Palearctic type species ( Daffner 1983, Newton 1998), and the following Nearctic species.
