Diagnosis of North American Sogdini (after Newton 1998, in part). Lacinia with dense brush of setae along entire mesal edge (also present in North American Leiodini ), galeal brush relatively much smaller; tarsal formula 5-5- 5 in both sexes; procoxal cavities partly closed by medial process of pronotal hypomeron; mesocoxae narrowly separated; lacking a transverse, lightly sclerotized structure bearing minute teeth present immediately behind tergum 7; female lacking a sclerotized spermatheca.
