Type Locality: Malaysia, Perak, Gunong Igari (= Mt Igari), 2,000 ft. (610 m).
Vernacular Names: Greater Long-nosed Fruit Bat.

Subspecies Macroglossus sobrinus subsp. fraternus Chasen and Kloss 1928
Distribution: NE India, Burma, C and S Thailand, S Laos, Vietnam, Sumatra, Java, Bali, and Sipora, Siberut, and Mentawai Isls ( Indonesia). Reports of this species from Cambodia cannot be confirmed (Kock, 2000 a).
Conservation: IUCN / SSC Action Plan (1992) – Not Threatened. IUCN 2003 – Lower Risk (lc).
