Striga junodii Schinz (1900: 62) View in CoL
Lectotype (designated here):— MOZAMBIQUE. Delagoa Bay , 1890, Junod 183 ( Z, barcode Z000028913 [image!], Fig. 3 View FIGURE 3 ). Possible residual syntypes: MOZAMBIQUE. s.d., Junod 393 ( BR, barcode BR0000006285876 [image!]) & Junod 183 ( BR, barcode BR0000006285760 [image!])
Notes: In the protologue of the name S. junodii , the type citation was given as ‘Delagoa-Bay: Junod 183, 193’. Mohamed et al. (2001) cited ‘Type: Mozambique. Delagoa-Bay, Junod 183 (holotype G, not seen)’ corresponding to the name S. junodii . This mentioned citation ( Mohamed et al. 2001) was published after 1 st January 2001, without the clause ‘designated here’ or equivalent. Since the mentioned citation does not meet the requirements of the Art. 7. 11 of the ICN ( Turland et al. 2018), the Art. 9. 10 of the ICN ( Turland et al. 2018) cannot be applied here. According to Stafleu & Cowan (1985), the type specimens of the names published by Hans Schinz are at Z, with duplicates at various depositories. In search of the relevant specimens, we traced one specimen at Z (barcode Z000028913!) and two at BR (barcodes BR0000006285876! and BR0000006285760!), but none at G. The Z-specimen (barcode Z000028913) is well maintained and it is perfectly matching to the protologue with proper label as ‘ Mozambique, Delagoa Bay, 1890, Junod 183’. This specimen (barcode Z000028913) is selected here as the lectotype of the name S. junodii . The BRspecimen with barcode BR0000006285876 has a label ‘ Mozambique, Junod 393’ and the morphological characters of this specimen are matching with the description given in the protologue. The number (collection number/species number) seen in the label of this specimen is ‘393’ as contrary to the cited number ‘193’ in the protologue. That might be a typographical error. Another BR-specimen, barcode BR0000006285760 lacks the details of collection locality, but possesses the label ‘ Junod 183’, and the morphology of the specimen is matching to the description given in the protologue.
