4. Glyphidops (Glyphidops) filosus (Fabricius) View in CoL
( Figs. 4 View FIGURE 4 A–E, 14D, 17B)
Nerius filosus Fabricius, 1805: 265 View in CoL . Type locality: “ America meridionali”. HT sex? [UZMC]. Glyphidops filosus View in CoL ; Enderlein, 1922: 151.
Glyphidops (Glyphidops) filosus View in CoL ; Aczél, 1961: 305.
Diagnosis. Frontal vitta yellow with ovate black spot on posterior third, covering the ocellar tubercle, separated in color from brown occiput. First flagellomere lanceolate with arista apical. Scutum dorsally with two white pruinescent stripes, separated by wide median brown stripe that narrows after transverse suture. Supra-alar seta absent.
Male. Body length 6.0– 8.5 mm. Wing length 5.0– 7.6 mm and width 1.5–2.1 mm. Brown with partly yellow head and thorax ( Fig. 4 View FIGURE 4 A).
Head. Moderately elongate in lateral view; dorsal length 1.2–1.8 mm and width 1.0– 1.5 mm. Frontal vitta yellow with ovate black spot on posterior third that covers ocellar tubercle, continuing towards posterior margin of head and separated from brown occiput ( Fig. 4 View FIGURE 4 C); fronto-orbital plate subshiny reddish-brown, anterior frontoorbital seta short and hair-like, may be absent on one side. Postocellar seta convergent, equal in length to transverse diameter of ocellar tubercle; inner vertical seta slightly convergent and equal to postocellar seta; outer vertical seta divergent and 70% length of postocellar seta. Genal seta slender and equal to postocellar seta. Postgena wide and rounded, subtly narrowing posteriorly. Occiput dark brown; length, 2.7 times height ( Fig. 4 View FIGURE 4 D). Antennal base brown and rounded. Antenna length 60–80% length of head. Scape yellowish-brown and velvety; 0.2 mm long. Pedicel same color as scape; 0.2–0.4 mm long; inner process of pedicel narrow and finger-like. First flagellomere lanceolate; 0.5–0.6 mm long; length at least twice maximum width. Arista apical with dense white pubescence.
Thorax. Scutum dorsally with two white pruinescent stripes, separated by wide median brown stripe that narrows after transverse suture; pleuron brown velvety. Anterior notopleural seta absent. Posterior notopleural seta and dorsocentral seta subequal to scutellar seta. Supra-alar seta absent. Postalar seta, 60% length of scutellar seta. Scutellum elongate and distally narrow; scutellar seta length 40% length of scutellum. Proepisternum with short anteroventral spine-like seta. Anepisternum dorsally paler than remainder of pleuron. Katepisternal seta, if present, spine-like or hair-like and short. Katatergite yellowish-brown or colored as pleuron in darker specimens; length 1.5 times height.
Legs. Mid coxa with one lateral spine-like seta. Femora yellow, with two brown distomedial rings (sometimes one or both imperceptible); mid femur anteriorly with five or six median setae.
Wing ( Fig. 4 View FIGURE 4 E). Basicosta without seta. Halter whitish-yellow.
Abdomen. Dark brown with bluish reflections. Syntergite 7+8 and epandrium shiny yellowish-brown.
Female. Similar to male, differs as follows: body length 6.4–7.2 mm ( Fig. 4 View FIGURE 4 B). Wing length 5.4–6.4 mm and width 1.6–1.8 mm. Katerpisternal seta absent. Fore coxa whitout anterolateral seta. Mid femur anteriorly with two or three median setae. Oviscape yellowish-brown with lateral and distal margins paler; length 1.6–2.0 times maximum width.
