Manota toroensis View in CoL sp.n.
Figs 24 View FIGURE 24 A–D
Male. Colour. Head brown, face paler brown. Antenna brown. Mouthparts paler yellowish. Thorax brown. Legs pale yellowish, trochanters 2 and 3 brown, apical fourth of femur 3 (lacking in the holotype) infuscated, traces of infuscation at the base of femur 3. Wing pale brown; haltere pale brown with dark brown knob. Abdomen brown, sternites paler than tergites. All setosity pale, yellowish or brownish, the thicker setae seeming darker than the finer setae and trichia. Head. Antennal flagellomere 4, Fig. 24 View FIGURE 24 A. Palpomere 3 of maxillary palpus with apicomesial thumb-like extension, with 3–4 apically expanded curved sensilla; palpomere 4 with parasegment, palpomere 5 ca. 1.4 times longer than palpomere 4. Number of strong postocular setae 10. Thorax. Anepisternum setose, with 23–26 setae; anterior basalare setose, with 5–7 setae; preepisternum 2 setose, with 7–15 setae; laterotergite setose, with 18–40 setae; episternum 3 setose, with 11–19 setae. Legs. Mid and hind tibial organs absent. Wing. R1meeting C well on the basal half of the costal margin; the sclerotized part of M2 basally extending to the level of the tip of R1, wing length 1.4–1.6 mm. Hypopygium, Figs 24 View FIGURE 24 B–D: Sternite 9 about three fourths of the ventral length of gonocoxa, laterally fused with gonocoxa, posterior margin convex, anterior margin with medial incision, the setae similar to ventral setae of gonocoxa. Parastylar lobe subtriangular, partly fused with gonocoxa, with 2 setae at posterior margin. Paraapodemal lobe not identifiable. Dorsal mesial margin of gonocoxa simple, indistinct in the middle, forming a curved setose lobe with the lateral margin, without megasetae. At the dorsal mesial margin of gonocoxa, on more ventral level, a plate-like lobe with 7–8 blunt megasetae at its posterior margin. One juxtagonostylar seta present, which is a flattened and greatly expanded megaseta arising from a strong basal body which is as long as the megaseta. Gonostylus small, ca. one third of the ventral length of gonocoxa, bilobed with a large oval lateral part and a thumb-like smaller mesial part, the latter with a very strong apical seta and two weaker setae at the mesial margin, the former with rather long apical setae three of which are stronger than the others, otherwise the setae are lacking except for a few short ones laterally and basoventrally. Aedeagus with a broad basal part and narrow apical part, separated by distinct lateral shoulders, the apex curved ventrad. Hypoproct large, posteriorly extending as far as the apex of gonostylus, the ventral setae scattered, ca. 30 on each half. Cerci mesially separate, the setae distributed from apex almost to the base of cercus, the longest ones about twice longer than the subapical width of cercus.
Female unknown.
Discussion. Manota toroensis is similar to M. ghanaensis . For distinguishing characters, see under the latter.
Etymology. The name is formed by the Latin suffix – ensis, denoting place, from the name of the Toro Kingdom where the type locality is situated.
