Manota redunca View in CoL sp. n.
Figs 19 View FIGURE 19 A–E
Male. Colour. Head pale brown, vertex and dorsal part of occiput dark brown. Antenna brown. Mouthparts pale yellowish. Thorax brown, posteromedial part of scutum and scutellum darker brown, ventral part of preepisternum 2 paler brown. Legs pale yellowish, apical third of femur 3 infuscated, bases of F3 and F2 and Tr3 infuscated in some specimens. Wing fumose brown; haltere pale brown with dark brown knob. Abdomen brown, sternites paler than tergites. All setosity pale, yellowish or brownish, the thicker setae seeming darker than the finer setae and trichia. Head. Antennal flagellomere 4, Fig. 19 View FIGURE 19 A. Palpomere 3 of maxillary palpus with apicomesial thumb-like extension, with 4–5 apically expanded curved sensilla; palpomere 4 with parasegment, palpomere 5 ca. 1.2–1.4 times longer than palpomere 4. Number of strong postocular setae 9–11. Thorax. Anepisternum setose, with 39–54 setae; anterior basalare non-setose; preepisternum 2 setose, with 9–19 setae; laterotergite non-setose; episternum 3 setose, with ca. 16–21 setae. Legs. Mid and hind tibial organs absent. Wing. R1 meeting C well on the basal half of the costal margin; the sclerotized part of M extending to the level of the tip of R1, wing length 1.7–2.0 mm. Hypopygium, Figs 19 View FIGURE 19 B–E: Sternite 9 half the length of gonocoxa, lateral margin sharply delimited, posterior part narrowed, anterior margin deeply incised, the setae similar to the ventral setae of gonocoxa. Ventral mesial margin of gonocoxa simple, shallowly sigmoid. Parastylar lobe elongate subtriangular or slightly sickle-shaped with three setae at anterior end, the setae arising from prominent basal bodies, the two more dorsal ones from a common lobelike basal body. Paraapodemal lobe distinct, exposed in ventral view. Dorsal mesial margin of gonocoxa simple, convex. Dorsal posterior margin simple, forming together with the mesial margin an acute angle with a row of setae on the mesial side. On the ventral side of the latter there is a finger-like lobe bearing a strong seta at apex. Two juxtagonostylar setae present, one is a rather unmodified long pointed megaseta with a hooked apex, the other a normal seta, both arising from a common basal body, which is about half the length of the megaseta. Gonostylus about half the length of gonocoxa, elongate crescent-shaped in outline, the extreme apex forming a tiny lobe with 3–4 setae deviating from the other gonostylar setosity, in mounts the lobe tends to turn dorsad and is difficult to observe; the ventral setae of gonostylus similar to those on gonocoxa but appear often conspicuously straight, the lateral and dorsal side of gonostylus largely non-setose. Aedeagus subtriangular, with distinct lateral shoulders, the apex curved ventrad. Hypoproct posteriorly extending to the basal part of gonostylus, the ventral setae strong and forming a mesial longitudinal stripe of ca. 4 setae on each half. Cerci medially separate, simple, the setae confined to apex, short, the longest ones only slightly longer than the apical width of cercus.
Female unknown.
Discussion. Manota redunca is similar to M. toomasi . Except for the characters outlined in the key it differs by following characters: 1) sternite 9 is posteriorly narrowed and has fewer setae, 2) the gonocoxa is posterodorsally entirely setose, without a large bare area, 3) the gonocoxa lacks dorsally a rounded posteromesial angle, 4) the mesial margin of the gonostylus is straight instead being convex, and 5) the gonostylus without two apical megasetae.
Etymology. The name is Latin, redunca , curved back, referring to the curved apex of the juxtagonostylar megaseta.
