( Figs 30 View FIGURES 25–34 , 61 View FIGURES 59–62 )

Promalactis mentawirella Lvovsky, 2000b: 684 . Type locality: Indonesia (Kalimantan).

Material examined: BRUNEI: 1 ♂, Rampayoh R. (north), lowland for[est], 122 m, LP 195, [Belait] 1−3.iii.1982, leg. G. S. Robinson, BM 1982−156, genitalia slide No. BMNH-33546 ( BMNH) .

Redescription. Imago ( Fig. 30 View FIGURES 25–34 ) with wingspan 8.5 mm. Head with vertex shining grayish white, frons shining leaden, occiput dark ochreous brown. Labial palpus with basal and second segments yellow on inner surface, ochreous brown mixed with black on outer surface; third segment black except white at base, about same length as second. Antenna with scape white, pecten dark brown; flagellum white and dark brown on dorsal surface, dark brown on ventral surface. Thorax and tegula ochreous brown. Forewing ochreous brown; costal margin black along basal 1/4, with an irregularly triangular white spot at 2/3, extending posteriorly to lower angle of cell, constricted at posterior 2/5 on outer margin; markings white, edged with black scales: basal fascia from near base of costal margin to near basal 1/6 of dorsum, second fascia from costal 1/4 to middle of dorsum; dorsal margin with a streak extending from before tornus to lower angle of cell; apex with a small white spot; cilia gray mixed with ochreous brown. Hindwing and cilia dark gray. Foreleg black, tibia with white spot at base and middle on dorsal surface, with a tuft of short white scales at apex, tarsus with white spots on dorsal surface; midleg with tibia and tarsus black, tibia with a white spot at base on dorsal surface, with a tuft of long white scales at apex, tarsus with white spots on dorsal surface; hindleg yellow on ventral surface, grayish black on dorsal surface, tarsus with distal 1/2 white on dorsal surface.

Male genitalia ( Fig. 61 View FIGURES 59–62 ). Uncus broad at base, gradually narrowed to 4/5, distal 1/5 slender, bent ventrad, pointed at apex. Gnathos broad, nearly tongue shaped, rounded at apex, same length as uncus; lateral arms very short, triangular. Tegumen branched from posterior 2/5, triangularly narrowed anteriorly. Valva sclerotized, narrow at base, broadened distally, asymmetrical; left valva: apex shallowly concave; dorso-apical process like an eagle’s head, pointed, down-curved apically; ventral process very short and blunt; costa sinuate, concave basally and distally, projected beyond middle; sacculus broad at base, gradually narrowed to about 3/5, distal 2/5 slightly broadened, elongately ovate, setose; right valva: apex deeply concave; dorso-apical process elongately spine-like, about twice length of left one, bearing a small ventral tooth at basal 2/5; ventral process hill-like; costa concave basally, projected medially; sacculus about 4/5 length of left one. Saccus very narrow, slightly broad at base, gradually narrowed to narrowly rounded apex, about 1.25 x length of uncus. Juxta narrow at base and with a narrowly saccate basal process, abruptly broadened to 1/4, 1/4−3/4 broadest, nearly parallel laterally, distal 1/4 gradually narrowed to acute apex, bilobed, forming two triangular lateral lobes, asymmetrical: left lobe reaching posterior 1/3 of tegumen, right lobe reaching posterior 2/5 of tegumen. Aedeagus strong, straight, slightly longer than total length from posterior margin of tegumen to apex of saccus; with nine short spine-like cornuti, one of which longer, about 1/4 length of aedeagus.

Diagnosis. This species is similar to P. kalimantana Lvovsky, 2000 , but can be separated by the asymmetrical valva, left lateral lobe of the juxta slightly longer than right lobe and the aedeagus with nine cornuti in the male genitalia. In P. kalimantana , the valva is symmetrical, the left lateral lobe of the juxta is much shorter than right lobe and the aedeagus has one cornutus in the male genitalia.

Distribution. Brunei (Belait), Indonesia (Kalimantan).

Notes. This species is newly recorded in Brunei, and the female of this species is still unknown.
