Type material: Holotype ♂, MALAYSIA, Timpohon Gate, Mt. Kinabalu NP (6°04'N, 116°36'E), Sabah, Borneo , 1800 m, 10−13.vii.2005, leg. Mey & Ebert, genitalia slide No. MNHU-NK020 ( MNHU) GoogleMaps . Paratypes: 1 ♂, 1 ♀, same data as holotype, genitalia slide No. MNHU-NK016 GoogleMaps ♀, MNHU-NK018 ♂ ( MNHU) .

Description. Imago ( Fig. 1 View FIGURES 1–8 ) with wingspan 10.0−11.0 mm. Head with vertex shining grayish white, frons brown, occiput dark brown. Labial palpus with basal and second segments dark ochreous brown on outer surface, basal segment pale gray on inner surface, second segment pale yellow mixed with black on inner surface; third segment black, about same length as second. Antenna with scape white; flagellum with basal 1/4 white, distal 3/4 white and black on dorsal surface, dark brown on ventral surface. Thorax and tegula dark brown. Forewing dark ochreous yellow except costal margin black along basal 1/5, markings white margined with dense black scales: first fascia from base of costal margin to basal 1/6 of dorsum, second fascia extending obliquely from costal 1/5 to near middle of dorsum, parallel with first fascia; a subtriangular spot at about 2/3 of costal margin, extending posteriorly to midwing; dorsal margin with a small triangular spot before tornus, extending to lower angle of cell, mixed with yellowish-brown and gray scales, nearly connected with costal spot; apex with a nearly rounded spot, surrounded with some black scales, an elliptic white dot below apical spot; cilia yellow except gray along distal part of costal and dorsal margins. Hindwing and cilia gray. Foreleg black, tarsus with white spots on dorsal surface; midleg black, tibia pale on ventral surface, with a tuft of long white scales at apex, tarsus with white spots on dorsal surface; hindleg yellow, tarsus with basal half gray, distal half white on dorsal surface, gray at apex.

Male genitalia ( Fig. 35 View FIGURES 35–40 ). Uncus broad at base, narrowed to 1/2, 1/2−3/4 parallel laterally, distal 1/4 slightly broadened, basal 2/3 with sparse long setae laterally, posterior margin deeply concave in U shape at middle, forming two thumb-like lateral processes. Gnathos sclerotized, broad at base, narrowed to 1/5, distal 4/5 somewhat band shaped, bent backward, forming a sharp angle at basal 1/5, distal 1/3 broadened to rounded apex; lateral arms very narrow and short. Tegumen broad, branched from posterior 2/5, with two small, ovate, curved inward, postero-lateral processes, triangularly narrowed anteriorly. Valva weakly sclerotized, narrow at base, broadened and bilobed distally: dorsal lobe shorter and broader, about 2/3 length of ventral lobe, hollow, forming an oval trough, densely with spinules, with a tuft of dense setae at apex; ventral lobe longer and narrower, with sparse long setae distally, bluntly rounded and serrate at apex. Saccus large and broad, about 1.5 x length of uncus, nearly triangular, pointed at apex. Juxta slender, Y shaped, pointed anteriorly, about 2/3 length of saccus. Aedeagus almost straight, about 2 x length of valva, basal 1/3 narrow, distal 2/3 broad, projected at about basal 2/3, with a saccate and a triangular process near apex, narrowly rounded at apex; vesica with dense spinules on ventral side; cornutus absent.

Female genitalia ( Fig. 66 View FIGURES 66–69 ). Apophysis posterioris expanded distally, about twice as long as apophysis anterioris; apophysis anterioris stronger. Ostium bursae large, rounded. Ductus bursae thick, posterior 1/2 sclerotized, nearly columniform, shrunken at middle, anterior 1/2 membranous and expanded, with a weakly sclerotized annulation at posterior 3/5; ductus seminalis arising from posterior 3/5 of ductus bursae. Corpus bursae rounded, with dense granules; signum a sclerotized, shield-shaped plate with two spines at right end.

Diagnosis. This new species is superficially similar to P. javana Lvovsky, 2000 , but can be separated by the thorax without white spot at apex, whereas the thorax of P. javana has two white spots at apex. In the genitalia, P. alveiformis has characters that separate it from other congeners: the tegumen has two inwardly-curved, ovate, postero-lateral processes, the dorsal lobe of the valva is hollow, forming an oval trough, and the aedeagus has a saccate and a triangular process near the apex in the male genitalia; the corpus bursae has a shield-shaped signum with two spines at the right end in the female genitalia.

Distribution. Malaysia (Borneo).

Etymology. The specific name is derived from the Latin alveiformis (= trough shaped), referring to the dorsal lobe of the valva forming an oval trough in the male genitalia.
