Promalactis fascisetacea Wang, Du & Li , sp. nov.

( Figs 8 View FIGURES 1–8 , 42 View FIGURES 41–46 )

Type material: Holotype ♂, MALAYSIA, Fraser’s Hill (3°43'N, 101°44'E), Pahang, 1520 m, 10−12.viii.2001, leg. W. Mey, genitalia slide No. MNHU-NK015 ( MNHU). GoogleMaps

Description. Imago ( Fig. 8 View FIGURES 1–8 ) with wingspan 9.5 mm. Head with vertex shining silvery white, mixed with shining gray posteriorly, frons and occiput dark ochreous brown. Labial palpus with basal and second segments pale yellow on inner surface, dark yellowish brown on outer surface; third segment black, longer than second. Antenna with scape white; flagellum with basal 1/2 white, distal 1/2 white and brown on dorsal surface, dark brown on ventral surface. Thorax and tegula dark ochreous brown. Forewing ochreous brown, dark gray mixed with black at apex; costal margin with a subtriangular white spot at about 2/3, extending down to midwing; white streak from base of fold to basal 1/5 of dorsum, white fascia from below costal 1/4 to basal 3/5 of dorsum, streak and fascia edged with dark-brown scales; tornus with a triangular dark-gray spot, edged with black scales; cilia yellow, dark gray along distal part of costal and dorsal margins, mixed a few white at tornus. Hindwing and cilia gray. Foreleg black, tarsus with white spots on dorsal surface; midleg with tibia and tarsus gray on ventral surface, black on dorsal surface, tibia with a tuft of long white scales at apex, tarsus with white spots on dorsal surface; hindleg yellow on ventral surface, gray on dorsal surface, tarsus with white spots on dorsal surface.

Male genitalia ( Fig. 42 View FIGURES 41–46 ). Uncus heavily sclerotized, projected at base laterally, slightly broadened to apex, posterior margin semi-ovally concave at middle, forming two slender digitate lateral processes; with two separate, papillary processes at distal 1/3 on ventral surface. Gnathos heavily sclerotized, broad at base, narrowed to 2/5, distal 3/5 narrow, almost parallel laterally, apex straight; lateral arms fan shaped. Tegumen branched from posterior 1/3, blunt anteriorly. Valva symmetrical, elongate triangular, broad at base, slightly narrowed to rounded apex, with a brush of setae dorso-apically; costa straight, with a long spine extending from middle, slightly exceeding end of valva, acute at apex. Sacculus very broad and rounded basally, narrowed distally, with a free, elongate ovate, setose distal process reaching end of costal spine. Saccus broad, about 1.5 x length of uncus, nearly parallel laterally, rounded at apex. Juxta very narrow, nearly lanciform, pointed at apex, reaching posterior 2/5 of tegumen. Aedeagus thin, about 1.6 x length of valva, curved medially, distally sclerotized, narrowed triangularly, pointed apically; cornutus absent.

Female unknown.

Diagnosis. This new species is similar to P. nabokovi Lvovsky, 2000 . It can be separated by the forewing with a white fascia not reaching below costal 1/4; the uncus with two separate papillary processes at distal 1/3 and the symmetrical valva in the male genitalia. In P. nabokovi , the white fascia of forewing reaches costal 1/4; the uncus has two basal-joined spines near apex and the valva is obviously asymmetrical in the male genitalia.

Distribution. Malaysia (Pahang).

Etymology. The specific name is derived from the Latin prefix fasci - (= cluster) and Latin setaceus (= setaceous), referring to the dorso-apical brush of setae of the valva.
