Pinguicula casabitoana Jiménez (1960: 238) View in CoL .

Type (lectotype, designated here):— [ DOMINICAN REPUBLIC]. Prov. La Vega: Alto de Casabito , [1400 m], s.d. [17 July 1955], J. J. Jiménez 3029 (USD barcode USD00004617!, isolectotypes JE barcode JE00024418!, US barcode 01068907!; Fig. 1 View FIGURE 1 ).

= Pinguicula cladophila Ernst (1961: 175) . Type (lectotype, designated by Casper 1966: 99):—[ DOMINICAN REPUBLIC]. Hispaniola, Prov. De la Vega: Civ. Santo Domingo, Cordillera Central , top of Loma La Vieja , 2075 m, 7 November 1929, E.L. Ekman H 14051 (S accession S05-188!, isolectotypes LL barcode 00519065!, NY barcode 01445966!, US barcode 01068906!; image of the lectotype available at https://herbarium.nrm.se/specimens/S05-188).

Note:—The protologue of P. casabitoana refers to a single collection as type: Jiménez 3029, without flagging it as holotype or mentioning any herbarium housing the specimen(s). Casper (2019) cited the “ holotype ” as housed at JBSD although he did not see it. Through communication with JBSD staff it was confirmed that this specimen is not in the extant collection (Elizabeth Séptimo, pers. comm., 3 December 2021). After the death of J. J. Jiménez, his personal herbarium and library were donated to the herbarium UCMM at the “Universidad Católica Madre y Maestra” ( Zanoni 1983). However, communication with UCMM staff revealed that no specimen that matches the citation in the protologue is in the collection (Juan F. García Gil, pers. comm., 13 December 2021). Three specimens of the gathering cited by Jiménez were traced (JE, US and USD) and none of them have indication that allows the assumption of them being used by Jiménez when elaborating the protologue. There is the possibility that the specimen at USD may have been used by Jiménez when preparing the protologue. It bears a handwritten label ( Fig. 1 View FIGURE 1 ) but it was not possible to conclude that the writing belongs to Jiménez (Ruth H. Bastardo, pers. comm., 12 January 2023). The specimen at USD (USD00004617!) is selected as the lectotype of P. casabitoana . For the name P. cladophila, Ernst (1961) cited Ekman H 14051 as the type but he did not mention any herbarium housing the material. Four specimens from Ekman’s collection were found at LL, NY, S and US. Casper (1966, 2019), by citing the specimen at S as “ holotype ” and the one at NY as “ isotype ”, made his intention clear and inadvertently designated Ekman H 14051 at S as the lectotype. Herewith, Casper’s selection is accepted but the citations are corrected to lectotype and isolectotypes according to Art. 9.10 of the ICN ( Turland et al. 2018).
