Proctocaecum nuevoleonensis (Caballero & Caballero)

Testudines (A): Intestine.

NUEVO LEÓN: Arroyo Ayancual, Río Salinas: Apalone spinifera ( Iruegas-Buentello et al., 1991) ; Río Pesquería: Apalone spinifera ( Caballero & Caballero-Rodríguez, 1964; Iruegas-Buentello et al., 1991).

Specimens deposited: CNHE (1122) (P).

Notes: Species originally described as Acanthostomum nuevoleonensis ( Caballero & Caballero-Rodríguez, 1964) , and included into the genera Atrophecaecum ( Groschaft & Barus, 1970) and Proctocaecum (Lamothe- Argumedo & Ponciano-Rodríguez, 1985). Likewise, it has been synonymized with Acanthostomum scyphocephalum ( Nasir, 1974) and Acanthostomum megacetabulum ( Brooks, 1980) ; however, this last proposal has been questioned recently ( Tkach & Snyder, 2003). The specimens from Arroyo Ayancual and Río Salinas were recorded as Acanthostomum sp. ( Iruegas-Buentello, 1979). Holotype in the personal collection of Eduardo Caballero y Caballero.
