status

Aplectana waltoni (Skrjabin & Schikhovaloba)

Amphibia (A): Intestine.

DISTRITO FEDERAL: Coyoacán: Rhinella marina? ( Walton, 1940) .

Specimens deposited: USNPC (42047) (P).

Notes: The original name for this species, Aplectana mexicana ( Walton, 1940) , was changed to Aplectana waltoni because the first species is homonym of the species described by Caballero (1933). According to Baker (1987), this species cannot be classified with certainty to Aplectana . Holotype lost. The host was originally identified as Bufo simus ; however, the distribution of B. simus is restricted to South America. In Mexico, the specimens conferred to B. simus correspond to Rhinella marina , but R. marina does not occur in the Distrito Federal (García-Vásquez com. pers.). The most likely scenario is that the host was misidentified.
