Diagnosis. N. doddi is externally similar to N. opalina , from which differs by larger size (FWL 5.4 mm), coppery brown forewing, large yellow spot in basal field, which is reaching dorsal wing margin, and absence of small dark brown spot near the apex of forewing. In male genitalia N. doddi is similar to N. laurella , from which differs by bent ventral margin of valva (see from the side), relatively short vinculum (3.2 × length of valva) and long juxta (0.5 × length of phallus).
Etymology. Named after Frederick Parkhurst Dodd (1861–1937), who built up a famous collection of Lepidoptera and some other insects from Northern Queensland and New Guinea.
Description. Male ( Figs. 11 View FIGURES 9 – 13 , 19). FWL 5.4 mm, WLR 0.31. Vertex with mixture of light yellow and dark brown piliform scales; frons glossy golden. PLB 0.4 × vertical eye diameter and 1.2–1.3 × scapus, light ochreous brown. Proboscis light brown, base with bronze scales. Eyes enlarged; interocular index 1.2; occipital index 0.10. Length of antenna 2.5 × FWL. Scape and flagellum bronze to dark bronze; basal 5–10 flagellar segments with coppery tint. Tegulae and thorax dark bronze. Forewing coppery brown; basal field wide, reaching costa and dorsum at about same distance from wing base. Glossy golden spot along costa large; pale yellow spot at forewing base wide, reaching dorsal wing margin; this yellow spot is externally bordered by a narrow interrupted line of dark brown scales. Fascia is formed by a mixture (approximately 1: 1) of dark brown and yellow scales, which are usually arranged in narrow alternating lines (one scale in width); internal margin of fascia convex, reaches costa at 0.37 × FWL, i.e. very close to the apex of basal glossy golden spot. External margin of fascia concave, formed almost exclusively by dark brown scales, with distinct dark brown spot near costa. Tornal spot minor, diffuse. Fringe bronze. Hindwing base semitransparent, apical half of hindwing brown with coppery tint; costal area grey; fringe light brown to grey. Legs bronze to brown, apices of fore- and mid-tibiae with coppery tint; all tarsomeres proximally pale yellowish brown, distally brown to bronze. Epiphysis at 0.6, not reaching apex of tibia. Abdomen brown with bronze lustre; basal sternites glossy golden.
Female ( Fig. 12 View FIGURES 9 – 13 ). FWL 5.1 mm. Antenna 1.6 × FWL, base not thickened. Vertex ochreous yellow. Pregenital segments ventrally with coppery tint. Otherwise similar to male.
Male genitalia ( Figs. 46–50 View FIGURES 21 – 50 , 57 View FIGURES 51 – 57 , 61 View FIGURES 58 – 61 ). Tegumen nearly triangular in ventral view, with small medial ridge. Socius oval, 1.2 × diameter of phallus. Vinculum 3.2 × length of valva, with almost straight lateral margins and Wshaped distal margin. Apex of tegumen extends beyond the apex of valva. Ventral margin of valva bent at the middle, dorsal margin concave; apex of valva rounded. Valvae fused basally up to 0.15 × total length and fused medially to vinculum; sutures nearly indistinct. Anellus 0.5 × length of valva. Transtilla with narrow pointed medial process. Juxta 0.5 × length of phallus; arrow head narrow (WLR 0.3), with narrowly rounded tip and pointed lateral arms. Phallus 1.0 × length of vinculum, almost straight; apical part forms two hook-like processes; base of phallus narrowly funnel-shaped.
