Chordodes annulatus (Linstow, 1906)

(gure 2A, B)

Parachordode s annulatus Linstow, 1906a: 246–247 , gure 17.

Chordodes annulatus: Camerano, 1915: 21 .

HOLOTYPE. Queensland, Australia (not further speci ed), one male and one female (Linstow, 1906a) (Museum für Naturkunde , Berlin, Germany; ZMB Vermes 4446; only microscopical slides, specimen is probably lost).

Material examined. Microscopical slides of holotype ( ZMB 4446 View Materials ) .

Host. Unknown.

This species lacks the crowned areoles that are typical for the genus Chordodes . The reason why Camerano (1915) included it in the genus Chordodes is unknown. The cuticle contains two types of areoles: a smaller and a larger one (gure 2A, B). This larger type may be occasionally found in paired clusters (gure 2B), but whether a pore or tubercle is enclosed between the top areoles (as is the case in several other taxa) could not be observed. According to Linstow (1906a), the male has a bilobed posterior end. Males of Chordodes always have an undivided posterior end without tail lobes. The assignment to another genus cannot be given here, because the cuticular pattern is not typical for any other taxon and further structural data from the male posterior end should be available.
