A. (Ammoplanus) dusmeti Giner MarõÂ

Ammoplanu s dusmeti Giner MarõÂ, 1943b: 289±290, 286, 288. Spain: Provinces Avila, Madrid

and Ciudad Real, syntypes. LECTOTYPE male from (Madrid): Montarco ; here designated,

in MNCN (examined). Erroneously synonymized with bischo by Marshakov (1976:

679; repeated 1978: 369).

Marshakov (1976: 679; 1978: 369) placed dusmeti , along with curvidens , as a synonym of bischo , apparently without seeing the original material.

According to Giner MarõÂ the type material of dusmeti comprised seven males and 21 females. Thanks to Dr Gayubo (UZUS) I examined three male syntypes from Montarco and Rivas and three female syntypes from Montarco and selected as LECTOTYPE a male from Montarco. Also the three syntypic males of A. zarcoi Giner MarõÂ belong here; they do not agree with the description of zarcoi as they have the pterostigma bicolorous, whilst in that species it should be unicolorous. For zarcoi see under kohlii .

Marshakov (1976: 679; 1978: 369) wrongly synonymized dusmeti with bischo . Gayubo (1991: 145 ±146) questioned that synonymy but the identity is settled only now after the designation of lectotypes.

Diagnostic characters

Male. Facial mask pale yellow and mostly extended to level just above toruli. Hind tarsus sometimes dark towards apex. Clypeus (®gures 88±90) with broad median quadrangular excision situated close to toruli and as broad as distance between centres of toruli; almost quadrate area between toruli ¯at and smooth, anteriorly ending with slightly obtuse elevation or a microscopic tubercle, visible in certain lights but not exceeding margin of median part of clypeus, hence this without tooth (®gures 88, 89). Labrum at base less broad than its distance from eye. Underside of head rather pilose. Antennae long but not very thin; scape distinctly widened, 2.4±2.8 times as long as broad; ¯agellum without apparent pilosity, its middle segments cylindrical, each 1.4±1.7 times as long as broad, last segment as long as two preceding ones combined. Pronotal collar ¯at, on sides almost horizontal, its anterior edge near corners ®nely carinate. Hind basitarsus slender, unmodi®ed. Apex of sternite 5 slightly produced and bearing a narrow erect spine declining forwards (®gure 15; in one case found worn oOE), before spine a transverse groove and in front of it a low elevation and usually some sparse hairs. Sternite 6 posteriorly in middle raised into a plough-like triangle.

Female. Frons moderately convex, distinctly and rather densely punctured, without cross-swelling between eyes; face down from middle with shallow median groove, on its sides above toruli densely reticulate, not depressed; no adorbital fovea. Eyes below strongly curving towards toruli (®gure 91), distance eye Ðtorulus slightly less than torular diameter. Clypeal margin in middle broadly excised, between submedian teeth as broad as distance between outer torular margins; bottom of excision slightly arched, touching toruli and median tooth either absent or indicated by low broad convexity; area between torulus and eye shiny, tentorial pit broad, shallow. Labrum 1.4 times as broad as high, anteriorly with deep round excision, the lobes curved on outside. Mandibles without additional tooth on upper margin but distinctly emarginate in basal third. Eye with lower end diagonally subtruncate, broadest in upper part, 2.3 times as long as broad. Malar space not distinct. Head underside with moderately dense and not very ®ne piliferous puncturation, punctures partly interconnected by shallow wide-meshed reticulation which merges on sides with ®ne longitudinal striation; part behind middle of oral fossa ¯at, after half distance merging with foraminal cavity. Hind corners of propodeum rounded and rather shiny due to partly obliterated sculpture.

Comments. The erect spine on the ®fth sternite (®gure 15) reminds one of the male of A. gegen but from that species the male of A. dusmeti clearly diOEers in the head, colour of the pterostigma, a non-carinate pronotum and having the hind basitarsus not modi®ed. The presence of the spine makes it easy to separate from other species. However, the females can be confused with small forms of A. perrisi , especially those having only a small clypeal tooth. The absence of this tooth in A. dusmeti seems to be the most reliable diOEerence, although, having in mind the unusual variation of the tooth in perrisi , it might be perhaps expected that in some small specimens the tooth may disappear. Morphologically dusmeti seems to be close also to bischo , but the latter species diOEers greatly in the form of lower part of head, as given in the key.
