Gonatocerus Nees   ab Esenbeck 1834: 192 –193. Type species: Gonatocerus longicornis Nees   ab Esenbeck, by monotypy.

Lymaenon Walker   ( sulphuripes   species group): Debauche 1948: 80, 82; Debauche 1949: 27.

Gonatocerus   ( Gonatocerus Nees   ): De Santis 1967: 103 –105 (in part); De Santis 1979: 364 –367 (in part); Triapitsyn et al. 2010: 12–14 (treated as a nominate subgenus, diagnosis, key to species in the Neotropical region).

Gonatocerus Nees   ( sulphuripes   species group): Matthews 1986: 216, 218 (diagnosis); Huber 1988: 30, 33– 35; Yoshimoto 1990: 39; Zeya & Hayat 1995: 75 –76 (diagnosis, key to Indian species); Donev 2005: 377 (key to species in the Balkan Peninsula); Guo et al. 2011: 54 –55 (key to species in Xinjiang, China).

Diagnosis. See Triapitsyn et al. (2010). In the Palaearctic species, pronotum divided mediolongitudinally, the two lobes abutting; dorsellum triangular to rhomboidal; fore wing with discal setae extending at least to base of marginal vein.

Distribution. Cosmopolitan.

Hosts. In the Palaearctic region, reliable records are from Cicadellidae   and Miridae   .
