Nepeta nepetella Linnaeus, Systema Naturae, ed. 10, 2: 1096. 1759.

[“Habitat in Europa australi.”] Sp. Pl., ed. 2, 2: 797 (1763). RCN: 4172.

Lectotype (Budantzev in Jarvis & al. in Taxon 50: 515. 2001): Herb. Linn. No. 726.11 (LINN).

Current name: Nepeta nepetella L. (Lamiaceae).

Note: Ubera & Valdés (in Lagascalia 12: 21. 1983) discussed sheet 726.9 (LINN), noting that at least some of the material (annotated

“Roy 20”), had been received from (they believed) Adriaan van Royen. In fact it came from his nephew, David van Royen, as confirmed by a numbered list contained in his letter to Linnaeus dated 16 March 1765. It cannot, therefore, be original material for this 1759 name.
