Hoplophthiracarus vinalesensis Niedbała View in CoL sp. nov.
( Fig. 2A–G View FIGURE 2 A – G )
Description. Measurements of holotype. Prodorsum: length 159, width 114, height 66; setae: ss and in 45, le and ex 7, ro 20; notogaster: length 283, width 202, height 182; setae: c 1 48, c 1/ c 1– d 1 = 0.6, c 3 and cp 7, h 1 48, ps 1 40, ps 3 13; genitoaggenital plate 114×61, anoadanal plate 126×76. Measurements of paratype. Prodorsum: length 156, width 110, height 63; notogaster: length 313, width 208, height 192.
Integument. Colour whitish, integument punctate.
Prodorsum with feeble lateral carinae. Sigillar fields feeble, median very short, shorter than lateral fields. Sensilli long, with fusiform head covered with small spines. Interlamellar setae erect, curved posteriorly, ciliate in distal half. Lamellar setae short, spiniform. Rostral setae erect, rough, situated near each other (in–in / ro–ro =3). Exobothridial setae short.
Notogaster. Notogaster with short (c 1<c 1– d 1) setae, setae ps 3 and ps 4 shorter, setae c 3 and cp shortest; majority of setae with distal half curved anteriorly and ciliated; setae c 1–3 remote from anterior border, setae c 2 more than setae c 1 and c 3. Vestigial setae f 1 slightly posterior of setae h 1. Two pairs of lyrifissures ia, im present.
Ventral region. Mentum of subcapitulum with setae h shorter than distance between them; 9 pairs of genital setae present with formula 6(4+2):3; anal setae ad1 and ad 2 longer than anal setae, setae ad 3 shortest.
Legs. Chaetome of legs incomplete, setae v ’ on femora I and setae l ’ on genua IV are absent. Setae d on femur I situated near distal end of article.
Material examined. Holotype and one paratype from Locality 2.
Etymology. The specific name refers to the locality—Viñales National Park.
Comparison. The new species is similar to Hoplophthiracarus illinoisensis ( Ewing, 1909) by the similar shape of sensilli and dorsal setae of notogaster and erect rostral setae but is distinguishable by the presence of very short median sigillar field (versus absence of field), rostral setae are situated near each other, in–in / ro–ro =3 (versus 2.2); setae c 3, cp, ps 3, ps 4 shorter than others (versus similar in length), different genital formula 6:3 (versus 7:2), setae v’ on femora I and setae l’ on genua IV are absent (versus present).
