Heterotetramelus (Heterotetramelus) novaecaledoniae (Franz) View in CoL , comb. n.
Horaeomorphus novae-caledoniae Franz, 1971: 95 View in CoL .
( Figs 3–10 View FIGURES 1–3 View FIGURES 4–10 )
Type material examined. Holotype ( NEW CALEDONIA): ♂, four labels: „Roche d’Ouaieme / b.Hyneghene,Neu / Kaledonien, lg.Franz”, with “Pa 65” handwritten on reverse side [white, printed], “ Horaeomorphus / novae cale- doniae / m/ det. H.Franz ” [yellow, handwritten and printed], “♂” [white, printed], “Typus” [red, handwritten] ( NHMW). Paratype: ♀, same locality label as for holotype, with yellow “PARATYPUS” label ( NHMW) .
Emended diagnosis. Male and female body below 2 mm in length, uniformly brown; eyes in male large (longest diameter much longer than apical width of scape), oval but weakly convex, female microphthalmous with nearly circular eyes (eye diameter subequal to apical width of scape); in both sexes antennomeres 7–10 each dis- tinctly transverse; pronotum lacking antebasal pits, with deep transverse groove interrupted at middle by short longitudinal wrinkle; aedeagus in ventral view with large, elongate group of needle-like sclerites occupying anterior 3/4 of median lobe, apex of median lobe in lateral view strongly projecting distodorsad; each paramere in lateral view strongly broadened in subapical region and strongly tapering in apical area.
Redescription. Body of male ( Fig. 1 View FIGURES 1–3 ) relatively stout and weakly convex, uniformly brown with indistinctly lighter appendages, setae distinctly lighter than cuticle, yellowish-brown; BL 1.78 mm.
Head sub-pentagonal, broadest at eyes, HL 0.35 mm, HW 0.41 mm. Vertex and frons confluent, together su- trapezoidal and weakly convex; supraantennal tubercles weakly elevated; tempora in dorsal view 1.7 × as long as eyes; eyes moderately large (longest diameter much longer than apical width of scape), in lateral view oval with indistinct posterior emargination, weakly convex and finely faceted. Punctures on frons and vertex fine and indistinct; setae dense, moderately long, suberect or erect; tempora with distinct long and dense thick bristles. Antennae slender and weakly gradually thickened, AnL 0.88 mm, antennomeres 1–2 each elongate, 3–6 each about as long as broad, 7–10 each distinctly transverse, 11 slightly shorter than 9–10 combined, 1.7 × as long as broad.
Pronotum in dorsal view bell-shaped, broadest near anterior third, PL 0.50 mm, PW 0.50 mm; anterior margin and sides in anterior third rounded together; lateral margins in posterior half weakly sinuate; posterior corners indistinctly obtuse-angled and blunt; posterior margin weakly arcuate. Base of pronotum with deep transverse groove interrupted at middle by short longitudinal wrinkle, lacking pits. Punctures and lateral bristles similar to those on head, setae dense and moderately long, almost recumbent.
Elytra together oval, weakly and evenly convex, broadest distinctly in front of middle; EL 0.93 mm, EW 0.65 mm, EI 1.42; basal elytral impressions short but distinct; humeral calli weakly elevated, elongate; elytral apices separately rounded. Punctures and setae on elytra similar to those on pronotum.
Legs moderately long and slender, metatibiae indistinctly recurved.
Aedeagus ( Figs 7–10 View FIGURES 4–10 ) stout, AeL 0.25 mm; median lobe in ventral view subtrapezoidal with sides of apical region concave and apex subtriangular and rounded, in lateral view apical region strongly curved distodorsad and slender; endophallus with large elongate group of needle-like sclerites occupying distal 3/4 of median lobe; each paramere distinctly brodened in subapical region and with strongly tapering apex, lacking setae.
Female externally differs in much smaller and nearly circular eye, with diameter subequal to apical width of scape. BL 1.88 mm; HL 0.38 mm, HW 0.43 mm, AnL 0.85 mm; PL 0.50 mm, PW 0.50 mm; EL 1.00 mm, EW 0.73 mm, EI 1.38.
