Notes

Cells small ovals, found as single cells, two cell clusters or in small clusters of daughter cells within thin firm colourless sheaths. Length 2.5-5(6) μm by 1.5-3 μm wide, cell wall sheath thickness 0.8-1.6 μm. Mats of cells form as a collection of single cells or clusters of daughter cells closely packed together. Layer occurring 0.1-0.4 mm below the sandstone surface, or on the underside of quartzite rocks (Fig. 10).
