Ariptyelus arisanus ( Matsumura, 1942) [transferred by Liang, 1998: 252]. Type depository: EIHU ( Komatsu and Hayashi, 1998).

Type locality: TAIWAN: Arisan [Alishan], Chiayi Co. ( Matsumura, 1942; Komatsu and Hayashi, 1998).

Coloration: Eyes yellowish brown, with brown marks; antenna brown; vertex yellowish brown, dark brown centrally, median carina dark brown. Frons in dorsal view dark brown, median carina yellow; frons in ventral view with basal part brown, apical part dark brown, transverse band not recognizable; genae and base of mouth parts dark brown. Pronotum with anterior half yellowish brown, posterior half dark brown. Mesoscutellum yellowish brown. Tegmen ( Fig. 1 View FIGURE 1 A) light brown, apical half with dark brown marks irregularly distributed, transverse band at middle dark brown, darker on costal margin and lighter on cubital area. Hind leg dark brown.

Structure: Head width: body width: body length= 1:1.4:2.8. Head in ventral view rhomboid, about 1.4 times wider than median length; about 3.4 times wider at base than median length from dorsal aspect. Pronotum wider than median length at widest part about 1.6:1. Tegmen ( Fig. 1 View FIGURE 1 A) subquadrate, anal margin: posterior margin: length of tegmen = 1:2.1:4; LBW: LMW: LT= 1:2.2:3.1. Wings ( Fig. 1 View FIGURE 1 B) with 4 apical cells, apical cells with first one longer than third 1.7:1. Wing coupling apparatus (WCA) with 3 hooks on basal part of costal margin ( Fig. 1 View FIGURE 1 B). Hind tibia with apical spines arranged in 2 rows, upper row with 7 spines, lower one with 8 spines.

Male Genitalia: Pygofer subquadrate in lateral view ( Fig. 3 View FIGURE 3 A), wider than long about 1.2:1; basal margin of pygofer smoothly curved inward; dorsal process of pygofer conelike in lateral view, directed ventrally; ventral process of pygofer in lateral view, shorter than ventral length of pygofer about 1:3.7; ventral process at widest part narrower than basal wide of pygofer about 1:5.3. Pygofer subquadrate in ventral view ( Fig. 3 View FIGURE 3 B); posterior part produced, platelike, not bilobed, transverse long, apical margin with minute notch at middle. Aedeagus elongate ( Fig. 3 View FIGURE 3 E). Genital styles ( Figs. 3 View FIGURE 3 C, 3D) with width of apical part about 1.2 times length (WAGS: LAGS= 1.2:1) on outer side, margin prominent on caudal margin of inner side.

Distribution: Taiwan.

Remarks: This species is known only from Taiwan. It is a common species and widespread all over Taiwan in habitats including shady and humid localities from lowland to upland. It can be distinguished easily from the other two Ariptyelus species by its size.
