[= Salamandra tigrina Green, 1825a ]
Holbrook (1842e:85, pl. 24) offered a brief account of another of Green’s species Salamandra ingens , which is now considered a junior subjective synonym of the Tiger Salamander ( Ambystoma tigrinum ). The accompanying illustration by C. Rogers is very high quality and was done from life based on a specimen from Tennessee provided by Troost. While Holbrook apparently had specimens of Tiger Salamander that he considered to be Triton ingens , none are currently known to exist with that label among his extant collections.
