Description. Holotype. Male ( Fig. 1 View Fig ). Total length 14.5 mm. Body subcylindrical, slightly flattened, blue-green with strong metallic shine. Head: Subsquare in dorsal view (ratio 1.1), with irregularly scattered punctures ( Fig. 2 View Fig ). Ocular index 3.2 (Campbell and Marshall 1964). Clypeus trapezoidal, 1.7X wider than long; anterior margin

straight. Fronto-clypeal border medially straight, both sides curved anteriorly; genae strongly raised, with rounded outer margins. Antennae filiform ( Fig. 3A View Fig ), relative length (mm) of segments II – IX 0.2: 1.1: 0.8: 0.8: 0.8: 0.9: 0.9: 0.8: 1.0. Pronotum: Trapezoidal in dorsal view, 1.5X wider than long, anterior angles rounded. Anterior margin straight, slightly bordered at sides; basal margin markedly bordered and slightly bisinuous. Lateral margins of pronotum not visible in dorsal view. Pronotal disc same color as head, smooth, sparsely irregularly punctate, lacking median groove. Scutellum: Triangular, apex rounded, smooth, same color as body. Elytra: Ratio (length/width) 2.4. Elytral margins subparallel, green-violet, shiny metallic and vitreus. Elytral striae formed by fine, impressed points. Interstriae smooth, only slightly convex. Prosternum: Prosternal process elevated, flat between coxae, roundly produced at apex; feebly punctate ( Fig. 4 View Figs ). Legs: Anterior tibia slightly and gradually curved; apex and apical inner part of tibia with fringe of dense, yellow setae ( Fig. 3B View Fig ). Medial tibia feebly curved with setal fringe at apex ( Fig. 3C View Fig ). Hind tibia straight, with sparse, yellow setae on inner side ( Fig. 3D View Fig ). Anal sternite: Simple, not apically hollowed or cut, with external margin smooth, not bordered; fine, irregularly scattered punctures present ( Fig. 5 View Figs ). Aedeagus: As in Fig. 6 View Figs .

Diagnosis. The new species is closely related to A. grandis , and both can be distinguished from congeneric species by the following characters: size greater than 12 mm; interstrial intervals of the elytra flattened; strongly metallic integuments, pink-blue-green in color. Ainu andoi can be separated from A. grandis by the lateral margins of the pronotum not visible from above and by the different shape of the aedeagus ( Figs. 6 – 7 View Figs ).

Etymology. I am pleased to name this species after Kiyoshi Ando, tenebrionid specialist, as a sign of friendship and esteem.
