Reteporella kuklinskii n. sp.

( FIg. 19 View FIGURE 19 ; TAbLE 21)

Etymology. NAMED AFTER DR PIOTR KUKLINSKI, bRYOZOAN ECOLOgIST, IN APPRECIATION OF HIS CONTRIbUTION DURINg COLLAbORATIVE RESEARCH ON bRYOZOANS.

Material examined. HΟlΟtype: CRBA-58253, STN PAT 1208DR04, LARgEST OF SIX FRAgMENTS OF A COLONY, C. 25 MM LONg, 15 MM WIDE, LACKINg DISTAL PORTIONS. Paratype: CRBA-58254, STN PAT 0209DR05, LARgEST OF THREE FRAgMENTS OF A COLONY, C. 20 MM LONg, 10 MM WIDE, LACKINg PROXIMAL AND DISTAL PORTIONS.

Description. COLONY ARCHITECTURE AND OVERALL SIZE UNKNOWN. FENESTRAE ELONgATE, IRREgULAR; TRAbECULAE OF 2–5 LONgITUDINAL, ALTERNATINg AUTOZOOIDAL SERIES. AUTOZOOIDS IRREgULARLY POLYgONAL, WITH bOUNDARIES MARKED bY DISTINCT, RAISED SUTURES. PRIMARY ORIFICE TRANSVERSELY OVAL, WIDER THAN LONg. NO ORAL SPINES. PERISTOME SHORT; WITH SMALL OVAL AVICULARIUM ObLIqUELY SET IN PROXIMAL RIM, ADjACENT TO SHORT LAbIAL SUTURE AND PSEUDOSPIRAMINAL PORE. FRONTAL SHIELD SPARSELY AND UNEVENLY gRANULAR WITH MORE THAN FOUR CONSPICUOUS, MODERATELY LARgE AND IRREgULARLY SHAPED AREOLAR PORES. FRONTAL AVICULARIA NUMEROUS, VARIAbLY POSITIONED AND ORIENTATED; ROSTRUM SHORTLY LINgULATE, CROSSbAR COMPLETE. ADDITIONAL, LARgE ADVENTITIOUS AVICULARIA PRESENT ON MANY AUTOZOOIDS, ALSO PRESENT WITHIN THE FENESTRAE; ROSTRUM LONg, DIRECTED ObLIqUELY PROXIMALLY; CROSSbAR THICK, WITH A STOUT CYLINDRICAL COLUMELLA OCCUPYINg MUCH OF THE PALATAL FORAMEN. BASAL SURFACE OF COLONY SMOOTH, WITH SUTURES, bEARINg A FEW OVAL AVICULARIA IDENTICAL TO THOSE ON FRONTAL SURFACE. NO OVICELLS ObSERVED.

Remarks. THE SPECIES RESEMbLES RetepΟrella tΟrtuΟsa HAYWARD & WINSTON, 2011 IN THE FORM OF THE LAbIAL PSEUDOSPIRAMEN PROXIMAL TO AN ORAL ADVENTITIOUS AVICULARIUM, AND THE PRESENCE OF LARgE ADVENTITIOUS AVICULARIA. HOWEVER, IT IS DISTINgUISHED FROM R. tΟrtuΟsa bY THE PRESENCE OF NUMEROUS LINgULATE AVICULARIA. R. magallensis (BUSK, 1884), FROM THE SOUTH ATLANTIC, HAS A LONgER LAbIAL FISSURE, CONNECTINg THE PSEUDOSPIRAMEN TO THE PERISTOMIAL RIM. FURTHER, THE ORIFICE SHOWS A SINgLE LARgE SPINE ON EACH SIDE OF THE PERISTOME.
