Etymology. LATIN ‘ umbΟ ’, PROTUbERANCE, ALLUDINg TO THE SUbORAL UMbO.

Material examined. HΟlΟtype: CRBA-58234, STN PAT0209DR03, COLONY C. 10 MM LONg, 8 MM WIDE, ON ROCK.

Description. COLONY ENCRUSTINg, UNILAMINAR, PLURISERIAL; COLONY SIZE C. 10 MM LONg, 8 MM WIDE. AUTOZOOIDS HEXAgONAL; FRONTAL SHIELD CONVEX, SMOOTH, IMPERFORATE, EXCEPT FOR A FEW MINUTE PERIPHERAL PORES. PRIMARY ORIFICE WIDER THAN LONg; THE PROXIMAL bORDER SHALLOWLY ARCUATE; ORAL SPINES AbSENT; A SHORT UMbO MIDPROXIMALLY TO THE ORIFICE PRESENT. AVICULARIA AbSENT. OVICELL AS WIDE AS LONg; OOECIUM bROKEN IN OUR SPECIMEN.

Remarks. THIS IS THE FIRST RECORD OF THE gENUS IN THE PATAgONIAN REgION AND IpsibuffΟnella umbΟnata n. sp. REPRESENTS THE THIRD SPECIES DESCRIbED IN THE gENUS. IT RESEMbLES I. hyalina BRANCH & HAYWARD, 2005 AND I. repens GORDON & D'HONDT, 1997 IN ITS IMPERFORATE, CRYPTOCYSTAL FRONTAL SHIELD AND THE SHAPE OF THE PRIMARY ORIFICE. THE SPECIES DIFFERS FROM I. repens MAINLY IN THE AbSENCE OF SUbORAL AVICULARIA AND IN HAVINg A LESS PRONOUNCED UMbO, AND DIFFERS FROM I. hyalina IN THE SMOOTH FRONTAL SHIELD AND IN THE AbSENCE OF A PERISTOMIAL RIM. THE NEW SPECIES SHOWS A SHORT UMbO MIDPROXIMALLY TO THE ORIFICE, WITHOUT THE LOW PERISTOMIAL RIM THAT IS DEVELOPED IN I. repens .
