Lordiphosa medogensis Katoh & Gao , sp. nov.

(Pls 2B, 3J, 4J, 6B, 7J; Fig. 12 View FIGURE 12 )

Diagnosis. Sex-comb absent ( Fig. 12A,B View FIGURE 12 ). Cercus ventrally neither tapered nor truncated, with a tuft of ca. 8 small setae but no stout spines around ventral apex ( Fig. 12C,D,F View FIGURE 12 ). Paramere apically horizontally flattened and slightly pointed ( Fig. 12K,L View FIGURE 12 ), subbasally with 2 sensilla ( Fig. 12M View FIGURE 12 ). Gonopods dorsomedially with large, roundish expansion in lateral view ( Fig. 12K View FIGURE 12 ). Aedeagus completely fused to gonopods, ventrally nearly entirely pubescent ( Fig. 12I –K View FIGURE 12 ). Oviscapt valve apically triangular in lateral view and narrowing in ventral view, with ca. 8 marginal and 2 lateral, large, peg-like ovisensilla on apical margin and subapical surface, respectively, in addition to ca. 35 minute, lateral ovisensilla ( Fig. 12N,O View FIGURE 12 ).

Description (characters commonly seen in L. yangi sp. nov. not repeated) (♂, ♀). Head (Pls 2B, 3J, 4J, 6B, 7J): Frontal vitta yellowish brown. Fronto-orbital plate yellowish brown, paler surrounding orbital setae. Ocellar triangle brown. Face and facial carina brown; carina undeveloped. Occiput brown, ventrally dark brown. Postgena brown. Arista with 4 dorsal and 1 ventral, long branches and large terminal bifurcation. Supracervical setulae 14¯17 per side; postocular setae 18–19 per side. Clypeus yellowish brown, dorsally somewhat grayish. Cibarium with ca. 12 medial and ca. 11 posterior sensilla per side; 1 pair of medial sensilla situated outside rows, just anterior to sensilla campaniformia (Pl. 6B). Prementum with 5–6 (1 proximal, 2 lateral, and 2–3 distal) pairs of setae. Labellum with 6 pseudotracheae per side.

Thorax (Pl. 2B) entirely yellowish brown; mesonotum without stripe; thoracic pleura paler than mesonotum.

Legs (Pl. 2B, Fig. 12A,B View FIGURE 12 ): Foreleg 1 st tarsomere as long as or slightly shorter than total length of 4 succeeding tarsomeres. Midleg 1 st tarsomere as long as total length of 4 succeeding tarsomeres.

Abdomen (Pl. 2B): Tergites yellowish brown, lacking caudal bands.

Male terminalia ( Fig. 12C–M View FIGURE 12 ): Epandrium entirely pubescent, with ca. 6 and ca. 18 long setae per side on dorsal and ventral portions, respectively. Cercus dorsally to subventrally with ca. 17 long setae. Surstylus with ca. 47 setae scattered on caudal margin and inner surface but no distinct row of prensisetae; setae on inner surface long. Parameres distally strongly divergent from each other. Hypandrial caudolateral plates unpubescent. Aedeagal apodeme longer than aedeagus.

Female terminalia ( Fig. 12N–P View FIGURE 12 ): Tergite VIII yellowish brown, caudodorsally not swollen and without setae. Epiproct and hypoproct yellowish brown. Sclerotized structure inside oviscapt short, broad, not rod-shaped in lateral view. Spermathecal capsule slightly broader than long; introvert about 2/3 height of capsule, horizontally wrinkled.

Measurements (in mm): BL = 3.00 in holotype (in 1♀ paratype: 3.16), ThL = 1.60 (1.54), WL = 3.27 (3.23), WW = 1.26 (1.28).

Indices: FW/HW = 0.49 (in 1♀ paratype: 0.51), ch/o = 0.15 (0.11), prorb = 0.88 (0.77), rcorb = 0.26 (0.23), vb = 0.40 (0.37), orbito = 0.60 (0.40), dcl = 0.53 (0.73), sctl = 1.21 (1.17), sterno = 0.53 (0.63), dcp = 0.59 (0.49), sctlp = 1.27 (1.36), C = 4.00 (3.44), 4c = 0.54 (0.68), 4v = 1.35 (1.51), 5x = 1.27 (1.30), ac = 1.73 (2.08), M = 0.34 (0.41), C3F = 0.57 (0.56).

Holotype. ♂ (#06006), near the 108K station, Motuo (Medog) Country, Xizang, China, 4,5. x.2010, ex Impatiens sp. (with yellow flowers), J.J. Gao ( KIZ).

Paratype. 1♀ (#06007), same data as holotype ( KIZ).

Ecological notes. The two specimens were found visiting yellow Impatiens flowers and collected directly from the flowers using an aspirator.

Distribution. China (Xizang).

Etymology. Pertaining to the type locality.

Remarks. This species certainly belongs to the L. denticeps group based on the overall morphology and genital structures, but is unique among the members in lacking ventral, stout spines on the cercus, which is one of the diagnostic characters of this species group.
