Rhabdopygus maculatus Roewer, 1935: 17 View in CoL

Material studied. 2 3 & 1 Ƥ syntypes ( SMF /RII-5052), Lossida Berge (=Usambara), Roewer det.

Description of penis ( Figs 65–67 View FIGURES 56 – 67 ). Total length, 2.10. Stalk long and slender, becoming progressively wider in distal half. Neck indistinct. Penis head heart-shaped, with a shallow distal invagination, wider than long but not incrassate. Ventral side of head with a pair of small setae close to distal edge. Lateral sides with three pairs of large setae along wider part of penis head. Dorsal side with three pairs of small setae, two of them flanking the glans laterally and distally, while third situated close to distolateral edges. Glans small, short and simple.

Remarks. The described penis is clearly distinct from the penises of Rhabdopygus fuscus and Rhabdopygus puylaerti sp. nov. in stalk outline, position of lateral setae and shape of glans. Judging from what little we know about the genital morphology of African Assamiidae , Rhabdopygus ? maculatus is better placed among the Erecinae, but at the moment it is not possible to assign this species to a nominal genus.
