Acmopolynema tachikawai Taguchi 1971: 54–57 View in CoL . Type locality: Mt. Sanage, Aichi Prefecture, Honshu Island, Japan (holotype female [ZLMU ( Taguchi 1971), present depository unknown, apparently lost], not examined).

Baburia fasciata Hedqvist 2004: 236 View in CoL , 239. Type locality: Kataragama , Monaragala District, Sri Lanka. Syn. n.

Type material examined

Holotype female of Baburia fasciata Hedquist (on card, K.–J. Hedqvist collection, c/o NHRS), labeled: 1. " Sri Lanka, Manaragala didstrict [sic], Kataragama, 18.IV.1979, Skog. leg. Michael Söderlund "; 2. (red) " HOLOTYPUS female Baburia fasciata sp. n. K-J Hedqvist 2002".

Additional material examined

INDIA, Karnataka, Puttur , 24.iii.1993 ("ex. Palumbia glaucittis Sp. 3 IIE 22881") [1 female, BMNH] . MALAYSIA, Sabah, Danum Valley , 18.xii.1986 – 18.i.1987, M. Still [1 female, CNCI] .

Diagnosis

Possibly a member of the orientale species group. According to the original description and illustrations by Taguchi (1971) and the additional specimens from India, Malaysia and Sri Lanka, which perfectly match his description except for the row of frenal foveae on the scutellum (less evident in these south Asian specimens), this species has a narrow apical dark band on the forewing extending to the apical margin. This and other morphological features place it somewhat close to A. philippinense but the two species differ in the shape of the carinae on the propodeum (extending to only about half length of propodeum in A. tachikawai but reaching anterior margin of propodeum in A. philippinense ). Other distinguishing features of the female of A. tachikawai are as follows (based on the specimen from Karnataka). Body mostly brown, petiole light brown, and middle gastral terga dark brown. Leg segments light brown to brown. Antenna ( Fig. 1 View FIGURES 1–3 ) with scape, pedicel, F1, F4 and F5 light brown; F2 and F3 brown; F6 and clava dark brown; funicle segments without longitudinal sensilla, clava with 9 such sensilla. Upper tooth of mandible rounded. Mesosoma almost smooth; pronotum entire, about as long as mesoscutum; axilla with 3 or 4 foveae; scutellum with a row of small frenal foveae; propodeum ( Fig. 2 View FIGURES 1–3 ) with a short, incomplete medial groove extending from anterior margin. Forewing ( Fig. 3 View FIGURES 1–3 ) 3.7–3.8 x as long as wide; marginal vein of forewing with 1 or 2 dorsal macrochaetae; marginal fringe short, longest marginal cilia about 2/5 greatest width of wing; blade with 3 brown spots, with normal setae only on the apical dark spot, which reaches the wing apex. Hind wing 31–32 x as long as wide, with blade hyaline. Metacoxa and metafemur reticulate. Petiole shorter than metacoxa. Ovipositor about 9/10 length of gaster, markedly exserted beyond its apex (by about 1/4–3/10 of its own length); ovipositor length: metatibia length about 1.5:1.

MALE. Unknown.

Distribution Japan, India [new record], Malaysia [new record], and Sri Lanka [new record].

Comments Baburia fasciata Hedquist fits well in our concept of A. tachikawai , hence the synonymy.
