Type material

Holotype female (on slide, ANIC): AUSTRALIA, Australian Capital Territory, Black Mt. , CSIRO, 35°16'S, 149°06'E, 17.IV.1999, G.A.P. Gibson, sweeping. GoogleMaps

Description

FEMALE. Body and appendages mostly dark brown but most of legs (except distal tarsomeres) brown.

Head ( Fig. 87 View FIGURES 87–90 ). Antenna ( Fig. 88 View FIGURES 87–90 ) much shorter than body, sparsely setose except clava densely setose (setae very short). Scape longer than pedicel or any funicle segment; F1 slightly shorter than pedicel; F2, F3, F4, and F6 subequal in length, F5 the shortest and F6 the widest funicle segment; longitudinal sensilla only on F4 (1) and F6 (2), clava large, a little longer than combined length of F4–F6, with 8 longitudinal sensilla.

Mesosoma a little shorter than metasoma. Scutellum with row of frenal foveae. Propodeum ( Fig. 89 View FIGURES 87–90 ) with short submedial carinae.

Forewing ( Fig. 90 View FIGURES 87–90 ) 3.0 x as long as wide, with about 5 rows of setae behind marginal vein; longest marginal cilia about 1/4 forewing width.

Metasoma. Petiole about 1.3 x as long as wide, dorsally with several minute setae; ovipositor almost entire length of gaster, markedly exserted beyond apex of gaster (by about 2/5 of its own length); ovipositor length: metatibia length 2.1:1.

Measurements: Mesosoma: 560; mesoscutum: 215; scutellum: 145; petiole: 106; gaster: 606; ovipositor: 923. Antenna: scape (excluding radicle): 103; pedicel: 76; F1: 71; F2: 76; F3: 73; F4: 74; F5: 48; F6: 78; clava: 228. Forewing: 1353/455; longest marginal cilia: 112. Hind wing: 1082/51. Legs (given as coxa, femur, tibia, tarsus): fore: 121, 281, 239, 309; middle: 115, 264, 336, 403; hind: 167, 297, 442, 440.

MALE. Unknown.

Diagnosis

This species is distinguished from B. (B.) turneri by its much longer ovipositor and antennal clava with 8 longitudinal sensilla (it lacks the short ninth apical sensillum characteristic of B. (B.) turneri ). It differs from both B. (B.) evanescens and B. (B.) conquistador sp. n. in having longitudinal sensilla on F4 and F6 only.

Etymology This specific name is a noun in apposition, referring to the Decameron by Giovanni Boccaccio.
