Type material

Holotype female (on slide, QMBA): AUSTRALIA, Queensland, Brisbane Forest Park, 27°25'04''S, 152°49'48''E, 28.XI.1998, N. Power, Malaise trap. GoogleMaps

Paratype: AUSTRALIA: same data as holotype but 2–9.I.1997 [1 female on slide, CNCI] GoogleMaps .

Description

FEMALE (holotype and paratype). Color. Body and appendages mostly dark brown but most of legs (except distal tarsomeres) brown.

Antenna ( Fig. 95 View FIGURES 95–97 ) shorter than body. Scape almost as long as F1 and much longer than pedicel; F1 the longest and narrowest funicle segment; F2 and F3 subequal in length and slightly longer than F4, F5 and F6 subequal in length and slightly shorter than F4; longitudinal sensilla on F2 (2), F3 (2), F4 (2), F5 (3) and F6 (3); clava as long as combined length of F5 and F6, with 11 longitudinal sensilla.

Mesosoma a little shorter than metasoma. Scutellum without frenal foveae, but frenal line evident. Propodeum with submedial carinae about 1/2 length of propodeum ( Fig. 96 View FIGURES 95–97 ).

Forewing ( Fig. 97 View FIGURES 95–97 ) about 2.8 x as long as wide, with 1 or 2 rows of setae (6 to 10 setae total) behind marginal vein; longest marginal cilia about 1/5 forewing width.

Metasoma. Petiole about 1.7 x as long as wide, dorsally without minute setae; ovipositor about 9/10 length of gaster, markedly exserted beyond apex of gaster (by about 3/10 of its own length); ovipositor length: metatibia length 1.7–1.8:1.

Measurements (holotype): Mesosoma: 462; mesoscutum: 176; scutellum: 130; petiole: 97; gaster: 476; ovipositor: 591. Antenna: scape (including radicle): 91; pedicel: 55; F1: 94; F2: 88; F3: 88; F4: 85; F5: 79; F6: 79; clava: 158. Forewing: 1021/367; longest marginal cilia: 76. Hind wing: 824/39. Legs (given as coxa, femur, tibia, tarsus): fore: 109, 218, 185, 294; middle: 91, 206, 270, 318; hind: 112, 242, 355, 342.

MALE. Unknown.

Diagnosis

This species is distinguished from B. (B.) evanescens , the most similar species, by its much longer ovipositor, different proportions of the funicle segments, and the number of longitudinal sensilla on F2–F6, as indicated in the key. Boccacciomymar (B.) conquistador also has fewer setae behind the marginal vein compared with B. evanescens . This is the only known species of Boccacciomymar with 11 longitudinal sensilla on the clava.

Etymology

This specific name is a noun in apposition, meaning "conqueror" in Spanish; it is chosen for no particular reason.
