TYPE LOCALITY: "Little Swan Island, one of two small islands lying at the entrance of the Gulf of Honduras " .
DISTRIBUTION: Little Swan Island.
STATUS: Recently Extinct.
COMMENTS: Sometimes included as a subspecies of G. brownii ; see Mohr (1939:77), Hall (1981:866), and Varona (1974:67). Morgan (1985) reconfirmed its status as a distinct species. Clough (1976) stated that thoracatus became extinct in 1950s, possibly as a result of introduced cats on the island. Reviewed by Morgan (1989, Mammalian Species, 341).
